![]() ![]() Founded as Hoff's Mills in the 1740s and renamed "Pitts-Town" during the Stamp Act Crisis of the 1760s, it was the earliest crossroads trading center to be established in Franklin Township, and it also figured during the Revolutionary War as the location of many of Deputy Quartermaster-General Moore Furman's activities. ![]() Pittstown's appearance today as a small, compact linear village has resulted from the two main periods of its development. The Pittstown Historic District, located in Franklin Township and Alexandria Township, meets National Register criteria in the areas of agriculture, architecture, early settlement, industry, transportation, and military history.
